About this deal

Budget to mid-range TVs tend to focus on functionality over looks, but the TCL C715 sports an elegant and tidy design. The slim metal bezel offers minimal distractions, and the feet – which can be configured in narrow (which I chose) and wide positions – offer flexibility (you don’t get this with the 50-inch model, however). Nor does it take long for the set to be assembled: slot in the feet, tighten the two screws for each foot, and you’re done. The most glaring example of this mixed-bag performance comes from its colours. With some sources and settings its QLED-driven colours are strikingly good, achieving saturations and volumes seldom if ever seen at the 65C815K’s price point. But at other times its colours go what’s probably best described as ‘off road’. Because of these gremlins, first impressions are mixed, with some strong contrast and vibrancy potential being undermined by some crushing of details in dark areas and overwrought colours. The TV’s first mistake is only providing three main picture presets: Vivid, Low Power and Movie. This really doesn’t leave viewers with enough easy options to get to a well-balanced picture they like, with each preset exhibiting enough issues to make TCL’s decision not to include some kind of Standard preset that sits somewhere between the Vivid and Movie settings seem pretty bizarre. refresh rate and Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation (MEMC) technology creates smooth motion scenes and reduces motion blur The rear does suddenly become chunkier a few inches in from those super-svelte edges, but even then the set wears this extra area of bulk quite nicely. The chunkier area doesn’t just house the screen’s processors and connections; it also provides space for TCL to build in a strikingly large rear-facing bass driver – again adorned by the Onkyo logo. There are a number of unusual elements to the 65C815K’s reasonably attractive design. First, it features a very obvious, blue-tinted soundbar hanging from its bottom edge. This wears the branding of renowned Japanese audio brand Onkyo, raising hopes this might be the rarest of things: an affordable TV with a built-in sound system that doesn’t sound horrible. That’s not to say the screen is a bust for gaming, of course. Not everyone has a PS5, Xbox Series X or one of the latest Nvidia or AMD high-end PC graphics cards, after all, and the screen only takes a very respectable 16.2ms to render image data when running in its Game mode. It’s currently the case, too, that only very premium TVs tend to support the latest game features, so you won’t find such support on any of the 65C815K’s similarly priced rivals. This TV is 144hz VRR native: the highest standard in the TV industry and perfect for e-sport games and FPS.: smoother and seamless gameplay without any tearing. AMD Freesync premium for serious gamers with a fluid, tear-free gameplay experience at peak performance. Introducing the C935U, P733W and S522W Soundbars With the ONKYO speakers, viewers can enjoy immersive Dolby Atmos sound quality on the TV or pass it to a TCL Sound Bar. There's a bezel less design with a matching central stand allowing the TV to fit on any surface at home. Release Date

What Hi-Fi? TCL 55C735K review - What Hi-Fi?

Percentage luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output The 65C815K is also notable for how exceptionally slim its screen is at its outer edges. So much so that you’d be forgiven for thinking it must be an OLED rather than LCD TV. However, with both these solutions brightness will have reduced to around 400 nits by the time you’ve done what you need to do to remove all the colour ‘exaggerations’.In fact, the 55C735K even supports the Dolby Vision IQ system, where the advanced Dolby Vision picture settings can automatically adjust themselves to compensate for the amount of ambient light in your room so that you still get the right level of HDR impact. The 55C735K marks a watershed moment for TCL’s fortunes in the European market as it finally sees the brand managing to combine a feature count that embarrasses many much more expensive TVs with some properly decent picture and sound quality. All at a price that will have more established rivals quaking in their boots. The 55C735K’s Onkyo sound system is solid-to-good for such an affordable TV. It can go impressively loud, for starters, and it can also project that volume a healthy distance to the left and right of the TV’s bodywork, creating a wide soundstage. The 55C735K has much more going on beyond these promising basics, though. For starters, despite its eye-openingly low price, it uses Quantum Dots to create its colours – an approach that should deliver a noticeably wider colour range than the traditional colour filter system.

Running in its brightest, most dynamic mode, colours in bright HDR10 scenes can look distractingly gaudy and unnatural The TCL 673K Series is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a high-quality viewing experience. Its 65-inch 4K QLED display provides stunning colour accuracy and contrast, while its HDR support ensures a vibrant and lifelike picture. The TV also offers easy access to streaming services, voice control, and Bluetooth connectivity. Subtitles and audio description information displayed on electronic programme guide programme banner The TCL C735 is a good all-round workhorse TV designed to be used in normal lighting conditions and offers a good selection of connectivity, gaming features, HDR compatibility and smart TV. Used in this manner it comes recommended and has been scored with the market position and cost in mind vs. performance.
