Description

Alexandra Potter's writing is very readable, and it was enjoyable to catch up with Nell and her friends. Everyone no matter what age you are needs to read this because it's true and we don't always feel like we have our shot together. Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up by Alexandra Potter will make you laugh, and it might even make you cry. As the eight-year-old on the bouncy castle explains, ‘if you get knocked down, you just get up again. But whilst the first book was special because of being so relatable when you are in your forties, this one now is a bit more classic chick-lit.

She does have a bit of a history, not all of which she has shared with Nell, and it’s her life experience which prompts her to offer wise advice. The novel explores society’s attitude to age, to women, to parenthood and loss, to family and relationships – of all kinds –and the importance of friendships and of talking. Although creating your own coffin… maybe I’d pass on that 😂 This sequel to Confessions of a forty-something f**k up did not disappoint! Very enjoyable and entertaining book with the telling of life how it is with none of us achieving perfection or things turning out as we may have planned. Synopsis (It's a fiction book, so it helps…from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to review. I liked the format of the book especially Nell's Things I Am Grateful For at the end of each chapter. Whilst sharing the flat with not only Edward and their dog, but also his two teenage sons, a surprise pregnancy test throws Nells World into a spin.Having spent a large amount of her time alone in her flat, she's looking forward to being able to get out and about again with her boyfriend, Edward, and her friends. Confessions of a Forty-Something F*ck Up is perfect comfort reading for anyone who thinks life isn’t working out as they want it to, whether they’re forty, fourteen or eighty-four. Yorkshire born and raised, Alexandra lives in London with her Californian husband and their Bosnian rescue dog. The story takes us through Nell's ups and downs, from her eccentric group of friends to her intriguing relationship with Edward, the boyfriend who maintains spreadsheets for everything.
