This one really tickled me when I saw it, but the subject matter is a lot less humorous than it might appear. Story was OK, if a little miserable - but reflective of what a normal life can be like, characters not really very likeable, and just as you thought that it was going to get a bit happier, the book abruptly stopped. A gripping yet tender depiction of family dynamics, love and disillusionment, At the Table is about what it means to grow up – both as an individual, and as a family. When Linda and Gerry Maguire announce their separation after decades of marriage, their thirtysomething children find the news difficult to digest.

Her marriage is characterised by emotional compromise and she is full of regrets about the risks she dared not take in life. When Gerry and Linda announce their separation after over thirty years of marriage the family are plunged into turmoil. So when Linda and Gerry announce that they've decided to separate, the news sends shockwaves through the siblings' lives, forcing them to confront their own expectations and desires. To watch a character to begin to suffer with depression and anxiety is tough, but when no one in the book seems to notice his mental health deteriorating is incredible hard. The neighborhood looks different too, but she’s still the same woman and it’s still the same place, and as the past erupts into view, they slowly collide.

This is such a real portrayal of family life, warts and all, that it took my breath away with its accuracy. By the end of the book I was just skimming the last few chapters wanting to be done with these tedious people and their dysfunction. The encounters between the family combinations are, as the title professes, around mealtime meetings. Tässä käsitellään aikuisten lasten suhdetta vanhempiin rehellisesti, minkä lisäksi hahmojen elämässä läsnäolevat mt-ongelmat on taustalla läsnä. We also use them to help detect unauthorized access or activity that violate our terms of service, as well as to analyze site traffic and performance for our own site improvement efforts. The only character that I had a smidgen of sympathy for was Jamie, but even that wasn't enough to make the story enjoyable. The book starts with a brief scene of Nicole and her mother in a restaurant, waiting for others to join them. In contrast Jamie has been seeing his girlfriend Lucy for years and their wedding is inevitable and imminent- but is it what he really wants?
