She gives courage to parents who conclude that enough is enough and who decide to withdraw their child - either to create a more self-directing environment at home or in a different kind of school. A huge thank you to all the people who helped it along its way and a particular thanks to those who took a chance on it. Clear and logical points based on scientific evidence and psychological understanding that makes complete sense to me both rationally and intuitively. You don't need to know anything about teaching to read and benefit from this book, but if you do it will make new connections between all the things you already knew. As each tart went past, I would carefully place three segments, and then it would pass on to Sara, who was doing the kiwi pieces.

I approached the publisher of every book which I thought would be bought by the same people as my book. Feeling like you have some control is more important than other factors, like how demanding your job is.It’s one of my favorite unschooling books that I have read and I’ll be revisiting this when I feel disconnected with my focus or struggle to remember some of the why.

My latest book, A Different Way to Learn is a deep dive into self-directed education and neurodiversity. It’s not uncommon for someone to choose a job where they have few choices and no control, in the belief that this will be less stressful. Really recommend to not just those interested in pursuing alternative forms of education for their children - but every parent, no matter how you may choose to educate your child. We stop them from playing and actively exploring their interests, telling them it’s more important to sit still and listen.

Naomi Fisher's book, Changing Our Minds, shows us why and how we can use other ways of living, learning and sharing knowledge with children besides the usual method: Sit down. Whilst reading this book I have been recommending it to everyone who I meet within education who should have an interest in this topic.

As a father of two young children, I read this book and immediately changed my behaviour towards them. Naomi expertly guides you through the wide world of learning, motivation, child behaviour, parenting culture, alternative schools and home education. I was just amazed at how much sense it makes and how differently we should be embracing the education of our children, especially those who are neurodiverse. Whether you are an educator or a parent, this book highlights not only the damage we are doing to children in the name of educating them, but also how things can be done differently.
